When choosing materials for young preschoolers, remember that small objects with choking hazards should be avoided.

    3. Making Butter – Making butter demonstrates how a liquid can become a solid. Fill a small jar (about one-third full) with warm heavy cream. Shake the pot for about 10 minutes, or until butter forms, ensuring the lid is securely fastened. Season with salt to taste (optional). Make flavored butter by combining the following ingredients: herbs (chives, rosemary, cinnamon, oregano), lemon or lime juice, honey, or vanilla extract.

    4. A bubble blower creates bubbles by blowing air into a liquid. Bubbles pop when they expand too much or come into contact with a surface. Share a bubble-themed book, such as Gilberto and the Wind by Marie Hall Ets. Make a bubble blower out of a plastic cup. Make a hole on the side of the cup (about 1 inch from the bottom) about the size of a plastic straw. Fill the bottom of the cup with equal parts water and dish soap (below the hole). Insert the straw into the cup’s hole, tilt the straw into the liquid, and blow lots of bubbles.

    5. Attract or Not Attract – Give preschoolers magnets or magnet wands, as well as items that are attracted to attractions and things that are not. Allow preschoolers to predict whether the magnet and why will attract a specific item.     Encourage a preschooler to investigate the slimy creation once it is finished. Can they flatten, roll, stretch, and shape it into a ball? Slime play is a fun sensory and textural experience that helps develop motor skills!


    8. Float Or Sink?

    Fill a large container with water; this could be a kiddie pool, bathtub, storage container, or anything else. Then arrange a variety of objects of varying densities. Some examples include sticks, stones, coins, bath toys, leaves, marbles, corks, sponges, rubber bands, and waterproof toys.

    Each item can be dropped into the water for a child to observe whether it floats or sinks. It can even practice providing a hypothesis by asking a child what they believe will happen and why and then testing their hypothesis.
