Founder’s Note

It all starts with memory. As babies, we learn to recognise our mother’s smell and voice and eventually see and recognise her face. We then know and remember to call her mummy and him daddy. Remembering our name, the name of our first friend and pet. Learning our first fact about how the place we live on is called planet Earth. Finding out what foods we like and dislike—understanding the difference between an apple and a banana. It all stems from memory. Memory makes us; it is who we are.

In adulthood, memory is something that we use every second of every day. My ability to write now and string all my words together is memory. It is ad skill so crucial that most of us take for granted.

It is funny how a skill so crucial is not being taught. Every test our children will be taking is a test of memory. Be it maths, English or science. Even if the questions are of a critical thinking nature, memory is still present. Yet we do not teach these skills to them. A talent not only necessary to succeed in academic life but in life itself. I created the Umonics method to teach young children these skillsets. A skill I only learned in university. At 25, I held my first memory record.
